Alice in Waterland Walking Tours - by Towpath Tours of Oxford.

This is a 90-minute circuit of Christ Church Meadow, which draws on the exterior of Alice Liddell’s former home of Christ Church and the adjacent meadows and rivers. It explains the real-life relationship between author Lewis Carroll and Alice Liddell, and the inspiration for many of the episodes in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through The Looking Glass.  The route also includes plenty of references to other Oxford classics of children’s literature and pertinent aspects of  local history. This is a flat, undemanding route. Wheelchair users are welcome. For more information click here - Towpath Tours Website

Tim Burton film

Directed by Tim Burton
Screenplay by Linda Woolverton
with
MIA WASIKOWSKA as Alice
and JOHNNY DEPP as The Hatter

Work is under way on Tim Burton's decidedly un-Disney adaptation of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, and the principal cast has been announced. The latest additions to be made public are Anne Hathaway, who catapulted to fame in The Princess Diaries, and will reportedly portray the White Queen, and Crispin Glover, who is coming off Beowulf and is slated for the Knave of Hearts role. Johnny Depp is the Hatter in a movie that Burton says he hopes will have "a gravity that most film versions haven't had." The filmmaker turns to Depp a lot (this is their seventh project together) and he is also steady in his screen devotion to his partner, Helena Bonham Carter, who will be the Red Queen. (Burton's movie, like the 1950s Disney adaptation, will apparently combine the Queen of Hearts from Alice's Adventures with the Red Queen from Through The Looking-Glass.) The title 'Alice' role belongs to Aussie newcomer Mia Wasikowska while British comedian Matt Lucas, of the sketch show Little Britain will play Tweedledee & Tweedledum. Lots more to come on this film ....

Oxford initiatives

The Story Museum in Oxford is continuing its programme of activities based on Oxford's great children's writers and illustrators, and following on from its highly-successful Alice Day in 2007 is looking to do much much more.

There are always Alice-related offerings at the Sunday Times Oxford Literary Festival too!

Alice Inspires launches

We have got some fantastic new Alice material for you - podcasts, art activities, and basic storyboarding animation - click here to visit the Inspire Me page.

This material was created as part of a partnership project between the British Library, SEMLAC, Museum of Oxford, and Christ Church - and uses the BL's original handwritten manuscript of 'Alice's Adventures Under Ground'.

Future plans include vodcasts of chapters read by some top comedians, a film and book exploring Wonderland/Looking-Glass's influence on the greats of modern British comedy, and all 24 chapters of the books to listen to - as well as more games and activities.

And we're looking for your inspired versions too...!
